One significant issue concerns the representation of jihad and shahid, which are framed differently by CNN Indonesia and Republika.co.id.

Aims: This study aims to examine how CNN Indonesia and Republika.co.id construct the meanings of jihad and shahid across various news topics and to investigate the discursive strategies they employ in linking these concepts within their news coverage.

Methods: This study adopted a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Fairclough's critical discourse analysis was applied to explore the discursive strategies used by the mass media to construct and reinforce ideology, stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination in the representation of jihad and shahid. The research employed the AntConc corpus tool for keyword analysis, collocation, and concordance. The dataset consisted of news articles containing the terms jihad and shahid, published over the past eight years on CNN Indonesia and Republika.co.id.

Results: The findings reveal that CNN Indonesia and Republika.co.id play a significant role in shaping public discourse and perceptions of jihad and shahid in Indonesia. The media frequently associate these terms with Islam, radicalism, and terrorism, often leading to generalized and oversimplified interpretations. CNN Indonesia tends to reinforce negative stereotypes and prejudices against Islam, whereas Republika.co.id presents a more positive interpretation.

Implications: This study underscores the critical role of media in shaping social and cultural understandings of religious concepts. The findings highlight the need for more nuanced and balanced media representations to prevent the perpetuation of stereotypes and to promote a more inclusive and informed public discourse on sensitive issues such as jihad and shahid.
Malik Fahad Ni Gusti Ayu Roselani Copyright (c) 2025 Malik Fahad, Ni Gusti Ayu Roselani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-20 2025-02-20 10 1 1 17 10.30603/al.v10i1.5307 The Reporting of Sudanese Refugee Movements to Chad on Aljazeera.net: A Critical Discourse Analysis from Theo Van Leeuwen's Perspective https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/5902
Background: The movement of refugees from Sudan to Chad is one of the global issues in the complex dynamics of the Middle East. News media plays a strategic role in shaping public understanding through discourse.

Aims: This research aims to reveal the discourse strategy in Aljazeera.net's news coverage of the Sudanese refugee crisis, based on Theo Van Leeuwen's Critical Discourse Analysis.

Methods: This research used a qualitative descriptive method. The data sources used in this research were news texts about the displacement of Sudanese people to Chad on Aljazeera.net, along with various supporting literature for analysis. The data collection techniques used are reading and note-taking methods. In addition, the data analysis technique involves data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.

Results: The results of this study revealed that the news coverage is presented factually and fairly, following the exclusion and inclusion strategies, where these strategies help readers assess the quality of the news.

Implications: This study implies that it provides readers with a deeper understanding of how news texts convey certain issues and can help policymakers understand media bias and highlight the importance of neutrality in reporting.
Muhammad Riyadi Nugraha Abdul Muntaqim Al Anshory Copyright (c) 2025 Muhammad Riyadi Nugraha, Abdul Muntaqim Al Anshory https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-20 2025-02-20 10 1 18 29 10.30603/al.v10i1.5902 Uncovering the Investigator’s Assumptions in Sexual Violence Crime Investigative Interviews: A Forensic Linguistic Analysis https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/5918
Background: The information supplied by a victim of sexual violence during an investigative interview frequently serves as the sole foundation for investigators in processing a sexual violence case. Nonetheless, the investigative interview process often lacks professionalism due to efforts to impose the investigator’s personal assumptions.

Aims: This research is a forensic language analysis intended to uncover the assumptions held by an investigator during an investigative interview with a child victim of sexual violence.

Methods: This study utilized qualitative data obtained from the investigative interview between an investigator and a child victim of sexual violence at a police station in Cilacap. Conversation data were collected using listening and note-taking techniques. The statistics were subsequently verified with the investigator to validate their legitimacy. This study employs the dialogic speech act theory technique proposed by Weigand (2010) to elucidate the assumptions held by the researcher.

Results: The findings of this study suggested that the investigator attempted to impose her personal assumptions on the victim through numerous exploratory speech acts designed to validate, offer options, and direct the victim’s responses.

Implications: The findings of this study may serve as a reference in assessing the specifics of inquiries within the Standard Operational Procedure on Examination and questioning techniques during the investigative interview procedure.
Dhion Meitreya Vidhiasi Copyright (c) 2025 Dhion Meitreya Vidhiasi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-20 2025-02-20 10 1 30 42 10.30603/al.v10i1.5918 Unveiling the Beauty of Figurative Language: A Stylistic Analysis of Qur’an Surah As-Saffat and Ar-Rahman in Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s Translation https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/5684
Background: Figurative language deals with non-literal language to shift meaning by comparing other words to the original composition. This appears in many works of literature, including the holy Qur’an. Therefore, it is essential to study, not intending to reduce or increase the meaning of the Qur’an.

Aims: This study aims to identify the types of figurative language in the surahs As-Saffat and Ar-Rahman and examine the most dominant figurative language in both surahs.

Methods: This qualitative study analyzed the linguistic phenomena in the verses. The objects were As-Saffat, which consists of 182 verses, and surah Ar-Rahman, which consists of 78 verses. The data were presented descriptively.

Results: The findings revealed that 81 verses in both Surah As-Saffat and Ar-Rahman contain figurative language. Surah As-Saffat contained 32 data points of figurative language, while Ar-Rahman had 49 data points. The most dominant type of figurative language in Surah As-Saffat is ellipsis, and in Surah Ar-Rahman, it is rhetoric.

Implications: The analysis results reflect that academics can be a form of integration between religious and general science, such as literature. Therefore, a more in-depth al-Qur’an can be easily perceived. Although related to general science, it does not leave the rules in interpreting the Qur’an. This can enrich the reference for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Dinar Dipta Norhayati binti Haji Abd Karim Diska Fatima Virgiyanti Eka Indah Nuraini Aries Fachriza Aniesa Copyright (c) 2025 Dinar Dipta, Norhayati binti Haji Abd Karim, Diska Fatima Virgiyanti, Eka Indah Nuraini, Aries Fachriza, Aniesa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-20 2025-02-20 10 1 43 58 10.30603/al.v10i1.5684 Exploring Functional and Emotional Aspects of the Arabic Muslim Adventure Application Based on Don Norman's Hierarchy of Design https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/6122
Background: This research discusses the Arabic Muslim Adventure application, an interactive app designed to help students learn Arabic through a game-based learning approach. Furthermore, song-based learning fosters an engaging and enjoyable learning environment, enhances motivation, and promotes collaborative learning.

Implications: These findings indicate that song media can be an effective pedagogical tool for enhancing Arabic phonetic instruction by improving students’ pronunciation accuracy, fostering engagement, and creating a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment.
Moh Arif Nurmuzib Muhammad Jafar Shodiq Boby Bagas Purnama Khoirul Mubin Copyright (c) 2025 Moh Arif Nurmuzib, Muhammad Jafar Shodiq, Boby Bagas Purnama, Khoirul Mubin https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-25 2025-02-25 10 1 101 117 10.30603/al.v10i1.5732 Presupposition in the Character of Judy: A Pragmatic Analysis of the Zootopia Movie Script https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/5695
Background: A well-grounded and accurate assumption helps in selecting appropriate lexical variations before expressing a statement in communication. Movies serve as an effective medium for this purpose, as they reflect real-life situations. In pragmatics, presuppositions allow listeners to recognize implied meanings and better understand communicative intentions.

Aims: This study examines the use of presuppositions in the Zootopia movie script by applying George Yule’s (1996) theory of presupposition. It aims to identify the types of presuppositions expressed in the dialogue, analyze the educational character values demonstrated by the main character, and interpret the meanings conveyed through presuppositions in the movie script.

Methods: The study employed a qualitative content analysis design. The data were collected from the dialogues of the main character in the Zootopia movie script.

Results: A total of 106 presuppositional instances were identified. Existential and factual presuppositions were the most frequently occurring types. Additionally, five educational character values were found: (1) peacemaker, (2) curiosity, (3) discipline, (4) responsibility, and (5) hard work.

Implication: The interpretation of presuppositions allows audiences to gain deeper insights into the underlying meanings of the dialogue. Through movie scripts, viewers can not only engage with the storyline and character development but also grasp the film’s core messages and objectives. Future research should extend beyond presuppositions to explore a broader range of linguistic phenomena.
Siti Aslihatun Ni'mah Asro Santi Andriyani Copyright (c) 2025 Siti Aslihatun Ni'mah Asro, Santi Andriyani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-25 2025-02-25 10 1 118 130 10.30603/al.v10i1.5695 Diagnosing Consonant Clusters in Gorontalo Language: Revitalization of a Regional Language in Tomini Bay https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/5688
Background: The term "diagnosis" is used in this study to reflect the careful and systematic approach needed to investigate the phonological features of Gorontalo Language (GL). This research study investigates the consonant clusters of the GL covering the phonetic, phonological, and phonotactic approaches focusing on the sounds of /mb/, /nt/, and /ngg/.

Aims: The research aims to clarify whether these sounds are single consonant or consonant clusters, contributing to both linguistic theory and the revitalization efforts for the GL in the Tomini Bay region.

Methods: The qualitative methodology utilized in this research is an analytical method associated with simultaneous data collection and analysis. The study assesses the phonological characteristics of GL with an emphasis on consonant clusters using a thorough literature analysis and real-world sources, including social media and interviews. A comprehensive description of GL's sound system can be obtained by applying phonetical, phonological, and phonotactical analyses of sound, phoneme, and syllable structures.

Results: Based on Gorontalo's phonetics, phonology, and phonotactics rules, the sounds /mb/, /nt/, and /ngg/ function as consonant clusters rather than a single consonant. Each sound in /mb/, /nt/, and /ngg/ is created uniquely, according to phonetic, phonological, and phonotactical analysis verifies that they function as independent phonemes that alter the meaning of words. Additionally, their classification as consonant clusters rather than a single consonant is supported by Gorontalo's phonotactic rules, which forbid consonants at syllable endings.

Implications: These clusters can find utility within educational resources, thereby reinforcing linguistic sustainability. This work contributes not only to linguistic knowledge regarding Gorontalo phonetical, phonological, and phonotactic but also has applications to inform the design of revitalization programs for endangered languages.
Rahman Taufiqrianto Dako Harto S. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and triangulation around the Student Entrepreneur Islamic Boarding School of Nuris 2 using participatory observation, guided interviews, data triangulation, and sources.

Results: This study revealed that the emergence of code-mixing and dialectology among students is influenced by internal and external factors, including their environment and personal experiences. This process is shaped by the diverse regional backgrounds of the students, their social interactions, and academic demands. Dialectology and code-mixing contribute positively to students' Arabic-speaking proficiency, as code-mixing is part of language acquisition, helping students develop confidence in speaking a second language fluently and accurately. However, it also challenges Arabic grammar, as excessive code-mixing can disrupt linguistic structures, making the language appear less formal and potentially hindering proper learning.

Implications: This study makes significant contributions to socio-linguistic and ecolinguistic studies, especially regarding how social interactions and environmental factors influence the students’ use of Arabic. It deepens understanding of social dynamics that influence language, such as code-mixing usage in multilingual conversation.
Lailatur Rohmah Asep Maulana Syamsul Anam Copyright (c) 2025 Lailatur Rohmah, Asep Maulana, Syamsul Anam https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-02-28 2025-02-28 10 1 146 161 10.30603/al.v10i1.5929 Psychoanalysis in the Novel Garis Luka by Khairani Hasan https://journal.iaingorontalo.ac.id/index.php/al/article/view/5842
Background: A character's personality shapes a compelling and high-quality novel.
