Islamic education is expected to integrate knowledge, faith, and character formation; however, its curriculum and educational discourse are still often fragmented and dichotomous. This article examines holistic Islamic education as a framework for character formation toward insan kamil and explains how the concept can be translated into educational practice. The study applies an integrative literature review of 39 substantive sources (34 journal articles and five academic books) published from 2020 to 2026. Sources were selected based on thematic relevance, verifiable bibliographic identity, and direct discussion of holistic Islamic education, character, spirituality, curriculum integration, social responsibility, or digital ethics. The synthesis shows that holistic Islamic education is distinguished from holistic education in general by its explicit tawhid-based orientation, the integration of revelation, reason, and empirical knowledge, and the ethical roles of humans as servants of God and stewards. Six interrelated analytical dimensions were identified: spiritual-transcendental, intellectual-scientific, moral-affective, social-civic, physical-ecological, and digital-ethical. Spirituality provides direction; intellectual and moral capacities guide judgment; and social, ecological, and digital contexts become fields for responsible action. Insan kamil is therefore understood as a developmental orientation rather than a claim of absolute human perfection. This framework offers an operational foundation for curriculum, pedagogy, institutional culture, and authentic assessment.
