Authorship Criteria
Authorship Criteria Narrative for AL-ULUM
The following narrative sets out the authorship criteria designed to safeguard the academic integrity of the journal:
1. Substantial Intellectual Contribution
Authors listed on a manuscript submitted to AL-ULUM must be individuals who have made a significant intellectual contribution to the work. This criterion encompasses active involvement in formulating the ideas, designing the research or conceptual study, conducting the analysis, and interpreting the data or literature. Authors must not include individuals who did not participate in the research or writing process (ghost authorship), nor may they grant authorship to parties whose contribution is minimal or based solely on structural position (guest/gift authorship).
2. Participation in Manuscript Preparation
Beyond contributing to the research or conceptual development, every author must be involved in the writing process or in critically revising the manuscript. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the content, including the opinions, data, and references presented. The manuscript submitted must be original work that has not been previously published elsewhere, as required in the AL-ULUM submission checklist. Involvement in preparing the manuscript ensures that every name listed understands and approves the final version of the work to be published.
3. Approval of the Final Version and Accountability
Before the manuscript is submitted, all authors must approve the final version. By submitting their work to AL-ULUM, the authors collectively declare that they have read and approved the content of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work. Should questions or challenges arise later regarding the validity of the data or methods, the corresponding author is responsible for providing clarification and resolving the matter transparently with the editorial board.
4. Inclusion of Identity and Affiliation
In accordance with AL-ULUM's writing guidelines, the manuscript must state the authors' full names along with their institutions and complete, clear addresses. This serves transparency and facilitates verification of institutional affiliation. Authors are also expected to provide an active email address for correspondence regarding the editorial process.
5. Handling Changes in Authorship
Any addition, removal, or reordering of author names after the manuscript has been submitted must be accompanied by a clear written justification and the consent of all authors involved. The AL-ULUM editorial board reserves the right to reject authorship changes that cannot be legitimately substantiated or that may give rise to ethical disputes. Changes made after a manuscript has been accepted for publication are generally not permitted except under highly compelling circumstances and with the editor's approval.
6. Compliance with Publication Ethics
AL-ULUM emphasizes the importance of originality and freedom from plagiarism. Authors meeting the authorship criteria must ensure that their work is free from fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism. Violations of publication ethics may result in the rejection of the manuscript or, if already published, corrective action or retraction in accordance with the journal's policy.
By understanding and adhering to the criteria above, authors contribute to maintaining the quality standards and scholarly integrity of AL-ULUM as a credible forum for Islamic studies.
