This study aims to analyze students’ Qur’an reading ability at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 3 Pekanbaru based on three dimensions: accuracy of makhārij al-ḥurūf, application of tajwid rules, and reading fluency. A quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design was employed. The population consisted of 575 seventh- and eighth-grade students, with a sample of 280 students selected through random sampling. Data were collected through an oral Qur’an reading test using a four-level rubric and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS. The instrument demonstrated good internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.848. The results showed mean scores of 3.51 for makhārij al-ḥurūf, 3.54 for tajwid, and 3.57 for fluency on a scale of 1–4. The overall mean score was 3.54, equivalent to 88.5%, categorized as very proficient. Fluency was the strongest dimension, while makhārij al-ḥurūf had the lowest mean score. The findings indicate the need to maintain reading habits while providing targeted practice in pronunciation and tajwid application. The assessment results can serve as a basis for teachers and madrasahs in designing remedial learning according to students’ needs.
