This study aims to describe the principal's strategies in developing teacher competency at SMAN 20 Gowa and to determine teachers' perceptions of these strategies. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. Research informants included the principal, vice principal, and teachers. The results of the study indicate that the principal implemented several strategies in developing teacher competency, including through participatory supervision, optimizing the learning community, namely Balira, and facilitating teachers to participate in competency development programs in external environments as supporting strategies relevant to improving teacher competency. However, there were several obstacles encountered, such as limited time, discipline, and some teachers still needed more encouragement to develop a spirit of learning and the ability to adapt to learning innovations. In general, teachers gave a positive perception of the principal's strategies. They felt supported, facilitated, and motivated to continue developing as professional educators. Therefore, the principal's adaptive and collaborative strategies play an important role in building teacher competency sustainably. However, there is still a need for a change in teachers' mindsets towards being more open to learning and self-development so that the coaching carried out is more optimalt.
