Strengthening Nationalism and Religious Values ​​Through the Junior Scout Extracurricular Activity in Elementary Schools

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strengthening of nationalism and religious values through Scout extracurricular activities and to examine their role in shaping students’ character at SDN Sumberpandan 2 Bondowoso. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the school principal, Scout leader, and students. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was examined through source and technique triangulation. The results showed that Scout activities can strengthen nationalism and religious values through direct learning (learning by doing), consistent habituation, role modeling by Scout leaders, and support from the school culture. The novelty of this study lies in integrating both values within the context of Scout activities as a means of strengthening students’ character. The findings recommend developing Scout activities based on experience, habituation, and role modeling in a sustainable manner. Nationalism is demonstrated through discipline, cooperation, responsibility, and love for the homeland, while religious values are demonstrated through prayer, worship, honesty, politeness, and respect.
