AL-LISAN: JURNAL BAHASA – AUTHOR GUIDELINES

  1. GENERAL POLICY AND SCOPE

Al-Lisan: Jurnal Bahasa is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing scholarship in English and Arabic language education, linguistics, Literature and Translation studies. The journal publishes original research articles, conceptual papers, and methodological contributions that address significant issues in language teaching, learning, assessment, and use across diverse educational and sociocultural contexts.

The journal prioritizes manuscripts that demonstrate theoretical rigor, methodological soundness, and practical relevance to language education. All submissions must represent original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process, and publication decisions are based on scholarly merit, originality, and contribution to the field.

Authors are encouraged to consult the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and adhere to the highest standards of academic integrity throughout the research and writing process.

2.2 Title

The title must be concise, informative, and specific, reflecting the core focus of the study. It should not exceed 20 words and should avoid abbreviations, jargon, or overly technical language that may hinder discoverability. The title should be centered, typed in Verdana 14 pt, bold, with standard capitalization (title case).

2.3 Author Information

Author names must be listed without academic titles (e.g., Dr., Prof.). Each author's complete affiliation must be provided in English, including institution name, faculty/department, city, and country. The corresponding author must be clearly identified with a superscript "1" after the name and a valid email address. Only one corresponding author is permitted per manuscript.

2.4 Abstract

The abstract must be a single, unstructured paragraph not exceeding 250 words. It must succinctly present:

  • Background: The context and rationale for the study
  • Aims: The specific research objectives
  • Methods: The research design, participants, and analytical approach
  • Results: The key findings
  • Implications: The significance and practical relevance of the findings

The abstract should be self-contained, written in the past tense (for methods and results), and avoid citations. It must be followed by 3–5 keywords, listed alphabetically, separated by semicolons, and representing the main content of the article.

  1. ARTICLE STRUCTURE

  1. SUPPLEMENTARY SECTIONS

4.1 Acknowledgements

Authors must express sincere gratitude to individuals, institutions, or organizations that provided support during the research process but do not qualify as authors. This includes:

  • Institutions that granted permission to conduct the study
  • Individuals who assisted with data collection, technical support, or administrative matters
  • Colleagues or reviewers who provided constructive feedback

The tone should be professional and genuine. Funding sources should be declared separately in a funding statement if required by the journal. All named individuals must have given permission to be acknowledged.

4.2 Authors' Contribution

Authors must clearly specify the individual contributions of each author to the study and manuscript preparation. This should be written in narrative form using specific action verbs such as: conceptualized, designed, conducted, analyzed, interpreted, drafted, revised, supervised, or approved. Each author's contribution must be described distinctly, and every author named on the manuscript must be included. This section ensures transparency and accountability in accordance with ICMJE authorship criteria.

4.3 AI Generative Statement

Authors must declare whether and how artificial intelligence tools were used during manuscript preparation. If AI tools were used only for language refinement, grammar checking, or clarity of expression, this must be stated clearly. Authors must explicitly confirm that all core academic activities—including research conceptualization, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of findings, and final academic decisions—were conducted independently by the human authors. The statement must conclude with a firm declaration that the authors take full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the entire content.

  1. REFERENCES

5.1 Citation Style

All references must follow the APA 7th Edition style. Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure accuracy and consistency.

5.2 Quality and Currency

  • At least 80% of total references must come from reputable international journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science
  • References should primarily be from the last 10 years, with priority given to the most recent 5 years
  • A minimum of 25–40 references is expected for a full-length research article

  1. SUBMISSION CHECKLIST

Before submitting, authors must ensure the following:

-          The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

-          Manuscript follows the provided template format

-          The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.

-          Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

-          The text is 1 spaced; uses a 12-Verdana; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather...

-          The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

-          Acknowledgements, Authors' Contribution, and AI Generative Statement completed

 

  1. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

7.1 Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and has not been published previously. All sources must be properly cited. The journal uses plagiarism detection software to screen all submissions. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be rejected.

7.2 Duplicate Submission

Manuscripts must not be submitted concurrently to more than one publication. Simultaneous submission will result in immediate rejection and possible ban from future submissions.

7.3 Research Ethics

Authors must ensure that their research complies with ethical standards, including:

  • Informed consent from participants (where applicable)
  • Protection of participant anonymity and confidentiality
  • Approval from relevant ethics committees or institutional review boards (where required)

7.4 Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could bias their work.

  1. SUBMISSION PROCESS

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. Authors are required to:

  1. Register as an author on the journal platform
  2. Upload the manuscript file (with author information included for the final version)
  3. Provide all required metadata (title, abstract, keywords, author information)
  4. Submit any supplementary materials (appendices, datasets, etc.)

For the double-blind review process, authors may be required to submit a separate blinded manuscript with all author-identifying information removed.

  1. GENERATIVE AI USE POLICY

Al-Lisan: Jurnal Bahasa (e-Journal) acknowledges the rapid advancement of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc.) and their potential role in academic research and writing. To maintain transparency, academic integrity, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing, Al-Lisan: Jurnal Bahasa (e-Journal) adopts the following guidelines on the use of generative AI:

For Authors:

  1. Disclosure Requirement: Authors must explicitly disclose if generative AI tools were used in the preparation of the manuscript (e.g., drafting, editing, or data analysis support).
  2. Human Accountability: AI tools must not be credited as authors. Only individuals who meet authorship criteria may be listed as authors.
  3. Content Review: Authors are fully responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, and ethical compliance of any AI-assisted content included in the manuscript.
  4. No Full AI-Generated Manuscripts: Al-Lisan: Jurnal Bahasa (e-Journal) does not accept fully AI-generated submissions. Manuscripts must be predominantly authored by humans.

For Peer Reviewers:

  1. Confidentiality Assurance: Reviewers must not use generative AI tools to read, summarize, or comment on confidential manuscript submissions.
  2. Reviewer Responsibility: All reviews must be written by the assigned reviewer and not by or with assistance from AI tools.

For Editors:

Editors must ensure that all editorial decisions are made independently and are not delegated to AI systems. They may use AI tools for administrative tasks (e.g., grammar checks) but remain accountable for all editorial outcomes.

 

Misuse

Failure to disclose AI usage or improper dependence on AI tools may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or other actions consistent with COPE guidelines.

All articles published in Open Access will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download.

10. PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE STATEMENT

Al-Lisan: Jurnal Bahasa adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and will investigate any allegations of misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, and inappropriate authorship.
